Night Shootin'

Nikon D70 @ 18mm, 0.625 sec, f/3.5, ISO 200
Previous · Current · Next

When I came back through to Edinburgh the sun was just about to set and I thought I could get a few shots around the city. I ended up staying out for a couple of hours and came back with about 200 shots!

Anyway, this was one of my last shots of the night, moments before a weirdo homeless man started talking nonesense to me (as Adam would say - TAXIII! ;). I was going to go for some more traffic trails, but this scene seemed to work better without any - I think it would have been too busy otherwise. What d'ya think?

Beautiful shot with very little noise, was there any PP or is this as shot.

Thanks munro. Yeah, there was some PP on this shot. Most noticeably I darkened the road at the bottom of the image, and tweaked the colours slightly. No noise reduction though... was a fairly clean image to begin with.

I agree - no need for light trails in this shot. It stands out as it is :) I love the blue whispyness in the sky to the right!

Any more traffic trails, and the shot would have lost its empty serenity.

It works well, you just catch a hint of movement in the cars - and only noticed the moving cars after a few seconds of studying!

Cheers for the comment on my site. Finally got a chance to drop in on you. Nice work with the night shots but my favourite still has to be the earlier shot of the bus trails outside the national gallery. Thats a beauty.

Jem: Thanks Jem... glad you like it the way it is. Yeah, the sky looks really cool in the top right - just wish there was some more of it!

Alan: Thanks for the comments Alan, much appreciated.

al: Thanks a lot... I'll keep checking out your great landscapes.
