The End

Nikon D70 @ 70mm, 1/20 sec, f/4.5, ISO 200

Another one from the graveyard. It was when I was taking this one that I thought VR (Vibration Reduction) would come in handy. Had to fire off about 6 shots just to make sure one would come out sharp.

The Dark Path

Nikon D70 @ 27mm, 1/50 sec, f/3.8, ISO 200
Previous · Current · Next

Over the last few weekends I've been taking maybe a couple of hundred shots and only liking 2 or 3 of them if I'm lucky. So I was quite surprised today when, out of about 100 shots, I ended up PP'ing 8 of them. So over the next week expect a lot of b+w shots similar in style to this one!

This was probably my favourite shot of the day - I like the surreal feel it has. It's quite funny that all my shots today were incorporating the fallen autumn leaves, and yet I ended up making them all b+w!

Champs Elysees

Fuji S7000 @ 20mm, 1/250 sec, f/4.5, ISO 200
Previous · Current · Next

Well BT finally fixed the problem with our telephone line, but I've still not had a chance to upload a shot from my own computer. So it's another one from Europe last year. I'm going to have to stop looking at my holiday photos though - it's getting me down being reminded of the great times and amazing weather! Ah well, it's almost the weekend I suppose.

So this one was taken from the top of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It's definitely worth a trip up to the top if you're ever there - you get some pretty nice panoramic views of the city.

Venice '04

Previous · Current · Next

My broadband doesn't seem to be working at home at the moment, so I haven't been able to upload a new photo today. So I chose this one from my Europe trip in summer 2004 (seems so long ago now!). This one is from Venice, one of the most picturesque places I've ever seen.

This scene reminded me of one of Escher's work, although no where near as good or as cool :)

I think I'll have to try this scene again in more favourable light.

Red October

Nikon D70 @ 46mm, 1/30 sec, f/4.5, ISO 200
Previous · Current · Next

It was a pretty miserable day - very overcast skies and the occassional showers - not your perfect photographing conditions anyway. I was thinking how I had missed the best autumn conditions, so when I came across this scene I thought I'd give it a go.

The PP work on this one is actually really simple - just desaturated the yellows to abut -75%. Was quite surprised with how this one came out.

Just realised that this is my 200th post on this blog! It's amazing how quickly time goes by. Thanks to everyone who keeps visiting, and especially to those who comment. It's always very much appreciated.

This one was always going to be black and white, but I didn't realise quite how well it would convert - the colour version really didn't have much going for it.

Taken on Sunday in Princes Gardens, Edinburgh.

Night Shootin'

Nikon D70 @ 18mm, 0.625 sec, f/3.5, ISO 200
Previous · Current · Next

When I came back through to Edinburgh the sun was just about to set and I thought I could get a few shots around the city. I ended up staying out for a couple of hours and came back with about 200 shots!

Anyway, this was one of my last shots of the night, moments before a weirdo homeless man started talking nonesense to me (as Adam would say - TAXIII! ;). I was going to go for some more traffic trails, but this scene seemed to work better without any - I think it would have been too busy otherwise. What d'ya think?

Misty?

Nikon D70 @ 35mm, 1/200 sec, f/4.5, ISO 200
Previous · Current · Next

I had to get up really early to capture the morning mist in Princes Gardens.

Ok, maybe not then. I was sitting in the gardens eating my lunch and noticed one of the diesel trains in Waverly station spouting out a load of steam. This was a totally grabbed shot and I was lucky that the sky was salvageable as a result of shooting in RAW.

The piece of cardboard reads:

Upside down and looking daft!!
That don't matter as long as I make
you laugh! I may be homeless, but
I do this because I don't ask for
money so its up to you if you want
to give.

Thanks

Andy

Still Movement

Nikon D70 @ 18mm, 0.625 sec, f/3.5, ISO 200
Previous · Current · Next

Finally a decent shot to post. I was feeling that I hadn't been posting shots of much worth recently, so I was pleased at getting this shot tonight. Used my new ML-L3 remote control, which helped me a lot (didn't have to keep using the self timer).

Tonight was the first time in about a week that the skies have been relatively clear, so it wasn't too dark by the time I left work. It's probably the longest time I've gone without using my camera in quite a while - a good 5 days at least! :)

I was really impressed with the colours of this shot, and how the D70 handled the noice. Still loving it.

Have a Shave

Fuji S7000 @ 8mm, 1/200 sec, f/8, ISO 200 + SB-800
Previous · Current · Next

I decided to take a picture of one of the little buggers that keeps invading our flat. There's a wasp's nest in the guttering just outside our flat, and somehow these little fellas are managing to get in (yes, the windows are closed!). At the weekend we had a lot of visitors... probably ended up killing about 50 in one day!

Anyway, I've not got a proper macro set up, so the quality of this one isn't the best. Taken with my S7000 and a reverse mounted 50mm lens. The wasp was probably about 2cm from the lens, so it was quite hard getting a decent angle.

Took a wander around Edinburgh this afternoon and got a few shots. The weather was quite changeable, but worked quite well for this one in infra red.
